A Brief Absence (Which Was Entirely Someone Else's Fault)

My dear readers,

It has been brought to my attention that I have not published a dispatch from my writing desk in some months.

Several months.

Possibly a year.

The exact duration remains a matter of fierce debate and should not be examined too closely.

I would like to assure everyone that I have not been abducted by pirates, carried off by an unsuitable duke, nor forced into marriage by a determined aunt.

The truth is considerably less exciting.

Books were written.

Manuscripts multiplied.

Entire families became engaged, disgraced, redeemed, and occasionally impossible.

One gentleman required reform.

Another required supervision.

A third required being struck repeatedly with a metaphorical chair.

In short, society continued to behave exactly as expected.

I, meanwhile, have returned to my desk armed with fresh ink, renewed determination, and several observations that may yet ruin someone's reputation.

It is good to be back.

Yours in scandal,
Miss Lucine Elizabeth Watson
Authoress, gossip merchant, and unreliable witness to her own adventures.

Composed on 29th May, 2026 following a year of silence, two novels, countless cups of tea, and an alarming increase in the population of Louisiana gentlemen. Miss Lucine Elizabeth Watson remains devoted to literature, mischief, and the careful documentation of other people's romantic mistakes.
